Prior to Manchester United’s return, Diogo Dalot discusses Cristiano Ronaldo’s text messages.

On transfer deadline day, Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United, joining up with Portugal teammate Dalot.

When Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United, Diogo Dalot revealed a text exchange he had with the Portuguese superstar. Ronaldo’s future had been up in the air for much of the summer before he finally joined Manchester United on deadline day.

Dalot and Ronaldo also play for the Portuguese national team, and the two will be seen together at Euro 2020.

Last season, the two were not only teammates on the international stage, but also opponents in Serie A.

Ronaldo was in his third season at Juventus, having won the golden boot award in the Italian top flight, while Dalot was on loan at AC Milan.

They met twice, with Dalot starting one match and coming in as a substitute in the other, while Ronaldo started both.

Dalot started at right-back for Milan in the first match, which ended in a 3-1 loss, before coming off the bench for the final eight minutes of Juve’s 3-0 victory.

Following his loan spell at the San Siro, the 22-year-old impressed United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enough to persuade United not to make a serious move for Kieran Trippier.

Dalot has mostly served as a back-up to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, starting only once in the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham.

He was, however, ecstatic to see Ronaldo return to Old Trafford, and even emailed his new teammate when the news was verified.

“Having Cristiano here is good for everyone, not just for me. Dalot told United’s official website, “He gives so much energy to everyone and he’s been terrific.”

“As soon as it was confirmed, I texted him and congratulated him on returning. He expressed his delight upon rejoining the club.

“He wants to help the squad, which is exactly what we want, and he has already done so. I believe fans can expect Cristiano to be the same as he has always been.

“You can expect the best from someone who has won what he has won and is playing like he is playing.

“We’re here to help him, and he’s here to help us, and I believe that by working together, we can accomplish a lot.”

When Dalot came on as a substitute in the defeat to Young Boys, he was welcomed alongside Ronaldo. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
