Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is a shock nominee for Premier League Player of the Season with champions Liverpool dominating seven-man shortlist.
Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all been nominated following the Reds’ impressive campaign with Kevin De Bruyne the only inclusion from Manchester City.
Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy and runner-up Danny Ings are the final two names on the shortlist.
Pope was just pipped to the Golden Glove award, finishing the the season with 15 clean sheets – one behind Manchester City’s Ederson.
The 28-year-old enjoyed standout performances throughout the season, including Burnley’s 1-1 draw at Anfield where the shot-stopper made several impressive saves.
The ‘keeper helped Sean Dyche’s side finish 10th in the league and was also part of the only team to take points off Liverpool at their home ground this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side dominate the shortlist after the club earned their first title in 30 years.
Captain Henderson had a stellar campaign and was named the Football Writers’ Player of the Year last month.
Mane also had an impressive season with 18 goals and seven assists while Alexander-Arnold beat his own assist record for a defender, improving on last season’s tally of 12 with 13 in the 2019-2020 campaign.
But the leading playmaker of the campaign was City’s De Bruyne who created 20 goals, equalling the record set by Thierry Henry in the 2002-2003 season.
Leicester’s Vardy scored 23 goals as the Foxes qualified for the Europa League, missing out on a place in the top four on the final day of the season.
The striker also netted his 100th Premier League goal in July. Ings found form in the second half of the season and was particularly impressive after the restart in June.
The forward helped the Southampton to 13th place, finishing well clear of the relegation places.
Despite not having a player nominated for the main award, Manchester United dominate the shortlist for Young Player of the Season with four nominees.
Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Dean Henderson, who spent the season on loan at Sheffield United, are all in with a chance of winning.
Alexander-Arnold has also been nominated for the Young Player award and is favourite to pick up the prize.
