Philippe Coutinho’s ‘key factor’ in choosing Aston Villa over Arsenal and Newcastle.

The ‘key factor’ in Philippe Coutinho’s decision to join Aston Villa over Arsenal and Newcastle.

Philippe Coutinho was signed by ASTON VILLA on Friday for the rest of the season.

Philippe Coutinho is said to have had a specific reason for choosing Aston Villa over Arsenal or Newcastle United.

After failing to impress once more at Barcelona, the Brazil international was heavily linked with a return to the Premier League.

Coutinho’s decision to join Aston Villa was motivated by the opportunity to work with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.

According to The Athletic, it was a ‘key factor’ in the 29-year-old’s decision.

This season, the Barcelona outcast had only made five starts in all competitions, with both Ronald Koeman and Xavi preferring him as a substitute option.

Coutinho has been offered a second chance at Villa Park, where he will be coached by Gerrard, with whom he shared the pitch at Anfield from 2013 to 2015.

The former Inter Milan playmaker has joined on a six-month loan with a purchase option.

Villa is expected to pay around 65 percent of the Brazilian’s salary, putting Barcelona one step closer to completing the signing of new signing Ferran Torres.

Earlier this week, Gerrard lavished praise on Coutinho, but the club failed to rule themselves out of the race for the player.

“I appreciate that his name is out there and that he’s linked with Aston Villa,” Gerrard said, “but he’s also linked with five other Premier League clubs and others across Europe.”

“I understand because you’re talking about a world-class player and individual.

He’s a fantastic football player.

“Sharing a pitch with Coutinho was a fantastic experience because he was at a level that only a few footballers achieve.”

“His creativity, as well as some of the highlight reels, are incredible.”

His name is self-explanatory.

But I’m afraid I’m at a loss for words.”

Arsenal and Newcastle were both heavily linked with Coutinho, but they will now have to look elsewhere.

With England full-back Kieran Tripper becoming their first signing of the month, the mega-rich Toon appear to have prioritized strengthening their defense.

Arsenal, on the other hand, is.
