Paul Scholes criticizes Solskjaer, claiming that one item will cost United the title.

Paul Scholes believes there is a huge flaw in Manchester United’s tactics which will see them miss out on the title.

Manchester United are as close to winning the title as they have been since Sir Alex Ferguson left – but there is still one thing that they lack to be considered title winners, claims Paul Scholes.

Scholes spent his entire career at Old Trafford, making 718 appearances and scoring 155 goals in a trophy-laden career.

With 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Champions League winner’s medals, Scholes has the credentials to know what manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to do in his hunt for the league title.

But United’s midfield woes and attack-minded tactics will cost them, says the United legend.

“You mention [Scott] McTominay, I think he’s the best one for that role [defensive midfield]out of the four of them, I’d definitely go for him,” Scholes told Webby and O’Neill.

“I think he’s got everything, he’s athletic, he can get around the pitch, he’s got great ability as well. He’s capable of sitting in that position.

“Ole doesn’t seem to be able to get the balance right in that team. Is he going to play that one with the rest around him, and have [Paul] Pogba next to him, who he probably doesn’t trust defensively? Or is he going to play two holding midfield players?

“That’s the difference between United and I think Liverpool and Man City – they are much more aggressive, more attack-minded.

“You think of City going away to Chelsea, they play one holding midfield player and almost play six or seven forward players – that’s the difference in mentality.”

The three aforementioned teams have all recorded better points tallies than United since Thomas Tuchel joined Chelsea in January 2020, proving Scholes to be right.

United have, however, signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer, which should improve their position in the table.

However, the failure to sign a central midfielder could also be their downfall according to Scholes.

He added: “I think if Ole can get that right with that balance in the team, going forward I don’t think is a problem. Going forward we’ve got so many exciting players with Cristiano [Ronaldo] coming,” he continued.

“Defensively we look good again. I know [Harry] Maguire is out injured but once he’s. “Brinkwire Summary News”.
