Paul Pogba’s current Manchester United contract expires at the end of the season
Paul Scholes has questioned Paul Pogba’s possible motive for wanting to leave Manchester United as the midfielder’s contract situation remains unresolved. Pogba’s current deal expires next summer meaning the Frenchman is free to talk to new clubs about a pre-signing agreement in the January transfer window.
Pogba has been an important figure for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side early in the season, registering seven assists in as many Premier League games.
The 28-year-old was also part of the French side that won the Nations League with a 2-1 victory over Spain.
But his club future remains a constant source of speculation as he appears to be continuing to stall on a new United deal while he assesses other options.
United legend Scholes sees midfield as an area concern for Solskjaer at Old Trafford and believes the Red Devils must do what they can to keep Pogba should he keep performing consistently at a high level.

“Everybody is a little bit unsure because he doesn’t do it week in and week out,” Scholes told the Webby and O’Neil Show.
“I think there is a big debate. You’d probably say half of people want him, the other half wouldn’t be that bothered if he went.
“I think the middle of the pitch is a little bit of a problem for us. If he is on song and plays to his ability like he does for France every time he seems to play for them then you’ve got to try and keep him.”
Pogba admitted in the summer of 2019 that he was ready to seek a new challenge away from United and PSG and Real Madrid were rumoured to be waiting in the wings.

But Pogba’s greatest test is still seen as the Premier League and moves to Spain or France are not as enticing as they once were.
Scholes does not think a move to deteriorating La Liga or PSG are as appealing for Pogba but added that the ultimate decision lies with United.
