Patrick Cantlay has issued a Ryder Cup warning for Europe in early 2023, as the United States plots a new era of domination.

Team USA won the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits on Sunday with Patrick Cantlay playing a major part.

Patrick Cantlay has warned Europe the outstanding United States side is going to be around for a long time. Cantlay saw off Shane Lowry in the second singles match on Sunday to ensure he finished the Ryder Cup undefeated.

And with America’s other young guns too hot for Europe to handle, the FedExCup champion says there is more pain ahead.

“I woke up this morning and I was trying to tell the guys this is going to be the next era of the Ryder Cup team for the US side,” said the 29-year-old Californian.

“We have a lot of young guys and I think they are going to be on teams for a long time and I wanted to send a message.

“I think the young guys on this team get along really well. Everybody gets along. We have played golf together since we were teenagers so it is great.

“The atmosphere is light but I know everyone has that killer instinct and we are going to bring that to future Cups.”

Cantlay finished off Lowry at the 16th with a run of three successive birdies after the Irish rookie had fought back after the turn to one down.

“He charged at me in the middle of the match which is what I expected,” said Cantlay. “I expected him to fight and he did but I played really well and hit some nice shots coming down the last couple of holes.”

Much was made of potential cracks in the US team ahead of the contest with Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Kopeka at loggerheads but the two alpha males of the side buried the hatchet for the week.

“We all came together as a team,” said DeChambeau. “Even though we are competitors each week we had amazing unity this week.”

Rory McIlroy was meanwhile reduced to tears live on TV after winning the opening singles against Xander Schauffele.

He said: “I love my team-mates so much and I should have done more for them this week.

“I am glad I got a point on the board for Europe today but I just can’t wait to get another shot at this.

“I don’t think there’s any greater privilege to be a part of one of these teams,. “Brinkwire Summary News”.
