Jeremie Frimpong has detailed why he decided to make the switch to Germany and join Bayer Leverkusen.

The Dutch youngster left Celtic yesterday and moved to the Bundesliga side for a fee reported to be in the region of £11.5million.

The former Manchester City youth sat down with his new club yesterday and explained why he wanted to start a new challenge in a different league.

He said: “It is a great opportunity to be able to play in one of the best leagues in Europe.

“I’m totally looking forward to the Bundesliga and, of course, this club in particular. Bayer 04 Leverkusen have regularly been in the Champions League and the Europa League.

“They demonstrated their ambition on the European stage last year in the two games against Glasgow Rangers.

“I really like the offensive, fast and technical style of play at Bayer 04 and I hope I can soon help the team.”

Celtic confirmed the transfer on Twitter saying: “Jeremie Frimpong has joined @bayer04_en on a permanent basis. We would like to thank @JeremieFrimpong for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for his future career.”

The German club confirmed that Frimpong had signed a four-year contract.
