Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urges Romelu Lukaku to stay at Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged Romelu Lukaku to stay at Manchester United for another season and reject a move to Italy.

The Belgian has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer after losing his place at the forefront of United’s attack last season.

Inter Milan are desperate to bring the former Chelsea forward to the San Siro while Napoli and Juventus are also said to be considering a move for him.

However, according to The Sun, Solskjaer has now made one last attempt to convince Lukaku to stay put and battle for his place in the team.

It is claimed the pair spoke before they flew out to Perth for the start of United’s pre-season tour and Solskjaer hinted there will be chances for him to play regularly, despite Marcus Rashford recently signing a new deal.

The Red Devils are expected to cash in on Lukaku if they can recoup the £75million they paid Everton for him in 2017 but Solskjaer would be keen to use him if he were to go nowhere.

According to Sky Sports, Inter Milan are sending officials to the UK this week as they step up their efforts to sign Lukaku.

Conte is planning to show Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan the door this summer, and will need a replacement for Icardi in particular.

The Italian wanted both Lukaku and Edin Dzeko signed by now, but both appear to be a long way off. United even turned down both Icardi and Nainggolan in part-exchange deals for the Belgian striker.

Similarly, their rivals Juventus are looking to offload Mario Mandzukic this summer, and Borussia Dortmund have put in a €15million (£13.5million) bid for him.

Their other striker Gonzalo Higuain is also close to an exit, thought to be going to Roma for cash in addition to midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

So, Juventus are looking for a strong player up front who Cristiano Ronaldo and Douglas Costa can play off, and Lukaku fits that bill.

New Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri and sporting director Fabio Paratici have both recently talked about the possibility of a Lukaku transfer, and they’re also after Manchester City’s Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus.

United want £75million for the Belgian, however Juventus aren’t willing to pay that much. It appears Juventus are willing to match any bid made by Inter. Sky reported that Inter have initially offered £62.8million.

Solskjaer will put Lukaku and the rest of his players through their paces during the multiple training sessions on tour before they play the first of six summer friendlies on Saturday against Perth Glory.
