Nuno has warned Tottenham manager Daniel Levy about ‘bad eggs’ who could lead to his dismissal.
Nuno Espirito Santo is currently under pressure at Tottenham to generate results immediately.
One or two ‘bad eggs’ in Tottenham’s dressing room, according to Harry Redknapp, could be adding to Nuno Espirito Santo’s strain given the club’s poor recent form. Before Sunday’s meeting against Aston Villa, Spurs had conceded three goals in each of their previous three Premier League matches, putting Nuno in a tough place after only a few months in command.
The Portuguese coach was named as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor in July, but he has struggled to make an impact in his new post.
Nuno’s position appears to have been jeopardized by Tottenham’s failure to capitalize on their promising start to the season, with the 47-year-old appearing to be on thin ice.
According to reports, Daniel Levy is already compiling a list of potential replacements as he considers a hasty management change.
Redknapp, on the other hand, has defended Nuno, claiming that Spurs have more pressing issues to deal with.
“What you need are great characters and great leaders, neither of which I see at Spurs, aside from Harry Kane,” he wrote in his Sun column.
“When I first saw them three or four years ago, I thought to myself, ‘It’s only a matter of time before they win the league.’
“They had a good nucleus in Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, and Danny Rose. That is no longer the case.
“They aren’t playing well and aren’t getting results, but dumping it all on Nuno’s lap is extremely difficult.
“It’s possible that there are one or two bad apples in the dressing room, and that this will effect everyone, whether they’re on the team or not.”
After the 49-year-first old’s transfer window in north London, Redknapp, who managed Spurs from 2008 to 2012, pointed the finger at new director of football Fabio Paratici.
“Tottenham have spent some money, but their recruitment hasn’t been great, so they brought in someone specifically for that,” Redknapp remarked.
“Maybe the criticism is pointing at the wrong person, because Nuno wasn’t the one who brought in those players last summer, and they all appear to be ordinary.
“Maybe that’s the one who deserves the tin-tack, because Nuno isn’t the one who should get it.
