Everton are reportedly set to miss out on securing the services of Brazilian winger Everton this summer as he edges closer to Benfica.
The Toffees have been tracking the Gremio star for a number of years but reports claim he has chosen a move to Portugal rather than the Premier League.
According to Goal, a deal between the player and Benfica has ‘moved a step closer’ with the Portuguese giants willing to pay £18million to get a deal done.
It is claimed the Toffees considered bidding for the winger back in the January transfer window but a move failed to materialise.
Ancelotti is desperate to add another goal-scoring threat to his squad this summer to ease the burden on Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Benfica manager Jorge Jesus, who has only recently returned to the club after a successful spell in Brazil with Flamengo, has identified Everton as a key target this summer.
He scored 15 goals and contributed seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Gremio last season. He made his senior Brazil debut in 2018 and has gone on to win 14 caps and score three goals.
The 24-year-old also played in their successful Copa America campaign last summer, winning the Golden Boot with three goals.
This is Ancelotti’s first summer transfer window since taking over at Goodison Park in the middle of last season.
He has already suffered another blow following the news that Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had chosen a move to Tottenham instead of Goodison Park.
Reports have also linked Everton with former Chelsea winger Jeremie Boga.
Though they now face competition from Napoli and Bayer Leverkusen, who have reportedly joined the race for the Ivory Coast international.
Everton finished in the bottom half of the Premier League last season, in 12th place and 10 points off of the Europa League places.
