Newcastle v Leicester: League Premier – live!

0

That’s how it ended between these teams last season.

Leicester was second, although that didn’t last until the end of the season. Newcastle suffered four injuries in the first 45 minutes.

Leicester made seven changes from the draw against Crystal Palace, with James Maddison the main returnee, while Newcastle made just two changes from the draw against Liverpool, with Miguel Almíron and Sean Longstaff coming in, meaning there will be a pair of Longstaff brothers in midfield.

Newcastle: Darlow, Yedlin, Fernandez, Schar, Clark, Ritchie, S Longstaff, M Longstaff, Almiron, Joelinton, Wilson.

Substitutions: Dubravka, Dummett, Carroll, Shelvey, Gayle, Hendrick, Krafth, Manquillo, Murphy.

Leicester: Schmeichel, Justin, Fofana, Evans, Castagne, Ndidi, Albrighton, Tielemans, Maddison, Barnes, Vardy.

Substitutions: Ward, Soyuncu, Iheanacho, Perez, Amartey, Under, Mendy, Praet, Thomas.

Leicester is in danger of becoming a Leicester while Newcastle is becoming a Newcastle, a slow saunter to safety with very little exciting on offer. That is what awaits these two clubs in 2021.

Is Leicester good enough to be a real challenge? The signs suggest they could be, although there are familiar weaknesses from Brendan Rodgers’ days at Swansea, Liverpool and Celtic. Over Christmas they needed late equalizers at Manchester United and Crystal Palace, two games they could have won and put themselves in an even better position. Newcastle’s draw against Liverpool was the best result Steve Bruce has delivered in a long time – his team hasn’t won since December 12, and that was against West Brom.

It looks like his team will defend deep again, while Rodgers’ side will have to play their way through.
