Newcastle United expect to finalise the signing of midfielder Jeff Hendrick on a free transfer after he underwent medical tests on Saturday.
The 28-year-old left Burnley earlier this summer and was the subject of interest from West Ham too but has been discussing terms on a four year deal with Newcastle.
Manager Steve Bruce is keen to add the Republic of Ireland international due to his Premier League experience and versatility.
Leeds United, meanwhile, have opted against a move for Newcastle’s midfielder Matty Longstaff.
The 20-year-old has also received interest from Serie A side Udinese and Sheffield United also.
Jeff Hendrick signed for Burnley from Derby in 2016 and has scored ten goals in 139 appearances.
The 28-year-old had started 22 matches for Burnley this term and Sean Dyche wanted to keep the versatile operator in his ranks but contract talks ultimately went nowhere, with the player content to wait and see what other doors might open.
