Newcastle have completed the £12 million signing of Kieran Trippier, kicking off a massive January spending spree.
In a £12 million deal from Atletico Madrid, KIERAN TRIPPIER has been named as Newcastle United’s first major signing of the new era.
On Friday morning, Newcastle United announced Kieran Trippier as their first signing of the new cash-strapped takeover era, with the defender joining from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid for around £12 million.
With many more players expected to join the project in which he has found himself, the right-back from Bury has described the move as “very exciting.”
Trippier, 30, joins from Madrid after a two-and-a-half-year absence from English football following his departure from Tottenham in the summer of 2019.
Trippier made his name at Burnley after rising through the Manchester City academy. At Turf Moor, he established himself as one of England’s best young right-backs.
He moved to Tottenham after his team was relegated, where he eventually replaced City-bound Kyle Walker, appearing 114 times for the Lilywhites.
However, after losing in the 2019 Champions League final – which happened to be held at the Wanda Metropolitano, the home of his future employers Atletico Madrid – he moved abroad for a new challenge, where he won a league title under Diego Simeone.
Trippier has reminded fans that, after pushing himself to move to Atletico Madrid, he is more than capable of taking on a new challenge at St. James’ Park.
James’ Park is a park in the city of London.
Trippier said in his announcement video, “If you look at the fanbase, look at the club, you know it’s a huge club.”
“Right now, we’re working on an exciting project.
“This is a great opportunity for me because I enjoy taking on new challenges.”
“I put myself to the test in Spain, and now I’m doing it in Newcastle.”
