Newcastle United are close to finalising the loan signing of Rob Holding from Arsenal.
Sportsmail revealed Newcastle’s move for the defender last week and the 24-year-old is expected to wrap up the signing after the weekend.
Holding was made available with Arsenal signing Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille.
Steve Bruce is eager to bolster his squad with homegrown signings but has a limited budget.
He is also keen on Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis, Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and free agent Ryan Fraser but will struggle to meet the financial requirements.
Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles was also a target but they will struggle to compete with Wolves who had a £15m offer rejected last week.
Newcastle want a striker desperately with Dwight Gayle out for three to four months.
