**WARNING – DISTRESSING CONTENT** When quizzed about the tragic death of one-year-old Star Hobson, Frankie Smith and Savannah Brockhill pointed the finger at a two-year-old tot in an “absurd” defence
A young mum and her lover are on trial for allegedly stomping her 16-month-old girl to death – after trying to pin the tragedy on a two-year-old.
Savannah Brockhill, 28, and girlfriend Frankie Smith, 20, are accused of “catastrophically” injuring one-year-old Star Hobson by stamping on her abdomen, killing her.
Numerous organs were fatally damaged in the injuries to Star.
Baby Star died due to stomach injuries which originated “either in the form of punching, stamping or kicking to the abdomen,” Bradford Crown Court heard.
Smith and Brockhill allegedly waited 15 minutes to call for help after the alleged attack.
It is claimed the pair also Googled “how to bring a baby out of shock” and “shock in babies” in the wake of the stomping, the jury was told.
Emergency services arrived at the couple’s West Yorkshire home on September 22 to find Star lifeless, wearing only a disposable nappy.
And when CPR was attempted on the poor girl, she vomited “large amounts” of brown gunk, the court heard.
Prosecutor Alistair MacDonald QC explained: “The reality is that the injuries suffered by Star were so catastrophic that there never was any real chance of saving her life.”
He also branded the couple’s attempts to blame a two-year-old in initial police questioning as “absurd”.
Mr MacDonald added: “The assault or assaults that killed Star clearly involved the use of severe force and were obviously intentional.”
“This little girl suffered no accidental death.
“It is the prosecution case that she was killed by the intentional infliction of injury and that the person or persons who inflicted these injuries intended, at the very least, to cause really serious harm to a helpless young child and that, in those circumstances, they are guilty of murder.”
The prosecution also said Brockhill and Smith kept social services away from the child, further contributing to her pain and suffering.
Smith and Brockhill deny the murder charge and causing or allowing the death of a child.
The trial at Bradford Crown Court continues.
