Mikel Arteta reveals Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is close to signing new three-year deal at Arsenal

Mikel Arteta hopes an agreement to keep captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can be finalised soon.

Star striker Aubameyang has verbally agreed to commit his future to Arsenal for another three years following talks with the club.

Though the 31 year-old’s extension, worth in excess of £250,000-per week, is still to be rubber stamped and confirmed.

Arteta said: ‘I keep being positive we have some really good talks with him and his agent and I’m pretty confident that we are going to find an agreement soon, that’s my feeling again.

‘Absolutely [it would be a massive lift for everyone]. And for him as well. I think he should be very happy if he is able to stay at the club for a long time and I think people will be delighted with that news.’

In terms of summer additions, Arsenal have signed winger Willian on a free transfer, confirmed the permanent arrivals of Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares and are on the verge of sealing the £27m capture of defender Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Community Shield clash against champions Liverpool, Arteta said: ‘We cannot announce anything yet.

‘The deal is not finalised. You all know he is a player we have been following for a long time and hopefully we can get it done.

‘Everything is ok when the clubs and the players agree terms and he goes through the medical and sometimes that in the last final stages is not as easy as it looks but we are pretty confident we can do that.

‘When we get it I will be very pleased. He is a player that we followed and we were determined that he was the right profile to improve our squad and if we are able to finalise it we will be delighted.’
