Arsene Wenger and Mikel Arteta discuss Mikel Arteta’s return to Arsenal in a new role.

Arsene Wenger, the legendary Arsenal manager, could make a sensational return to his former club, with current Gunners manager Mikel Arteta in talks with him.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has met with legendary manager Arsene Wenger to discuss a sensational return to the club.

Wenger, 72, stepped down as Arsenal manager in 2018 after 22 years in charge.

During his time in charge of the north Londoners, the Frenchman won three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups, and one Champions League final.

Despite his iconic status at the Emirates, he left three years ago after supporters demanded his departure.

Unai Emery, his successor, was only in charge for 18 months before Arteta took over.

The Spaniard spent five years at Arsenal under Wenger, and was named club captain during that time.

Arteta, who is now the club’s manager, wants his former manager to be involved in some way.

Arteta told reporters, “We would be delighted to have him much closer.”

“I think he’d have a great time just seeing the environment he can create around him when he’s around here because of the respect, admiration, and love that everyone at the club has for what he’s done and what he represents as a person.”

When asked if a formal offer had been made to Wenger, who now serves as FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, Arteta admitted that there had been some “communication” with the Frenchman.

However, he refused to speculate on what role Wenger would play if he returned.

“What I can say is that I would like him to be much closer to me, personally, because I believe it would be a huge help, and I believe it would be a huge help for the club,” he added.

“Things take time, and I believe he has to set the pace.”

What I can say is that we would be delighted to have him much closer, and I believe I speak for everyone when I say that.”
