As Mikel Arteta makes a January vow, Ian Wright urges Arsenal to sign an “amazing” midfielder.

Ian Wright, a former Arsenal midfielder, has weighed in on the club’s transfer plans.

Ian Wright, an Arsenal legend, would like to see Georginio Wijnaldum return to the Premier League with his former club.

Following his struggles at Paris Saint-Germain, Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

The Holland international joined the Ligue 1 giants last summer after leaving Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, has confirmed that he is looking for a midfielder this month.

Arteta’s only senior midfield options are Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles will join Roma on loan for the remainder of the season, while Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Wijnaldum, who won the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool, is Wright’s ideal loan signing this month.

“Obviously, people like Thomas Partey going away, you do need to then maybe bring in…,” Wright said on the Kelly and Wrighty Show.

“Wow, that would be incredible.”

“Someone like that in the midfield, someone with experience, a Premier League winner, just to help with the youngsters and someone like Sambi Lokonga, just to keep it going.”

“After that, they can simply start adding to the squad.”

Arsenal’s midfield needs to be strengthened, according to Wright, who believes Wijnaldum could earn a permanent move if he performs well.

“We’re going to have to do something,” Wright continued, “simply because Ainsley Maitland-Niles looks like he’s going to go on loan and Thomas Partey is gone.”

“We’ll need something in there,” says the narrator.

I know I just mentioned it, but I’m hoping we can snag Wijnaldum.

“Simply because we require cover, and we require cover of that caliber.”

He’s a seasoned professional who will only benefit the team.

“If he returns [to the Premier League]during this time, it will be on loan.”

So he’s thinking to himself, “Can I impress? Can I break into this team?”

“However,” she says.
