Mercedes is undecided about George Russell and Valtteri Bottas. – ONE-OF-A-KIND

Nico Rosberg provides his thoughts on George Russell vs Valtteri Bottas in an exclusive interview.

Following reports that Valtteri Bottas could be replaced by George Russell at the British-based German team, Lewis Hamilton’s old teammate Nico Rosberg believes Mercedes has yet to determine who would join him next season.

Russell, who is out of contract with Williams at the end of the season, has been questioned about his future since filling in for Hamilton at the Sakhir Grand Prix in the penultimate race of the season, when he came close to beating Bottas on his debut for the team.

Despite finishing ninth due to a pit stop error and a puncture, the youthful Mercedes driver sent shockwaves through the field.

Bottas, however, has found himself in limbo as his contract expires this season, with Toto Wolff saying it was a clear fight between the two for next season.

Many people believe a deal has already been struck, but Rosberg believes his old boss Wolff has yet to decide.

“It’s a tough one because Bottas is driving well and, in essence, deserves to stay there,” Rosberg told Express Sport during the unveiling of the Heineken® Greener Bar in Formula E.

“At the same time, George Russell is a potential star who is putting in incredible performances with a car that doesn’t deserve to be in third qualifying all of the time.

“So he’s driving very well, so he’d also deserve the Mercedes seat, so it’s a difficult decision, and I don’t believe they even know which way they’re going to go now, so we’ll see what they decide.”

Russell has been a standout for Williams this season, carrying an underperforming car to the finish line to secure a spot in the top ten shootout in qualifying for the past two races.

Hamilton’s future with Mercedes was secured at the Austrian Grand Prix, with a two-year extension added to his contract.

When the contract expires, the Britishman will be just shy of his 39th birthday.

Russell, meanwhile, appears to be waiting in the wings to replace Bottas and earn a spot on one of the most decorated teams in recent memory.

“To be honest, I guess I thrive off it, and you.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
