Max Verstappen’s reaction to his F1 title rival Lewis Hamilton colliding with him at Silverstone.

Max Verstappen is only two points behind Lewis Hamilton in the Formula One Drivers’ Championship, after the two collided at Monza and Silverstone.

According to Red Bull team president Christian Horner, Max Verstappen was “very furious” after colliding with Lewis Hamilton at the British Grand Prix. With seven races remaining in the 2021 Formula One season, Verstappen is only two points behind the seven-time world champion in the standings, after a tumultuous title chase thus far.

The pair have collided twice on the track, the first in July at Silverstone, with race stewards blaming Hamilton. While Verstappen was forced to retire from the race and was later taken to the hospital as a precaution, Hamilton overcame a 10-second penalty to win the race and reclaim his title.

The two collided again at Monza last month, but this time it was the Dutch driver who was at fault, according to race stewards. At the Russian Grand Prix, he was given a three-place grid penalty.

In an interview with Channel 4,

Horner, who has been the team principal at Red Bull Racing since 2005, believes Verstappen’s mental toughness was demonstrated by his reaction to the Silverstone setback.

“Max was enraged by the incident with Lewis in England, as well as the outcome. He’d put in a lot of effort that weekend, had already won the sprint race, and was in with a decent chance of winning the GP,” Horner said.

“Instead, there was a collision with Hamilton, a 51g accident, hospitalization, and an opponent triumph, but on Monday, he told me, ‘If I could do the race again, I would win it.’ And then he abandoned it.” Horner continued to sing the 24-year-praises, old’s praising his honesty and willingness to succeed.

“I’ve never seen a driver as straightforward as Max in all these years.” He’s forthright and honest about everything, and he doesn’t give a damn what the rest of the world thinks,” he added.

“If you spend more time with him and get to know him better, you’ll discover that he’s a really kind guy who is very passionate about the sport.” He has a strong desire to succeed and is driven to be flawless in every way. I’m not aware of any other driver who has so strong internal motivation.” After the British Grand Prix, Hamilton, 36, told ESPN that he spoke with Verstappen to clear the air.
