Max Verstappen is †keeping Lewis Hamilton interestedâ€TM as the Mercedes driver prepares for the British Grand Prix.

Mercedes signed Lewis Hamilton to a new two-year contract earlier this month.

Jenson Button, a former Formula One world champion, claims that Max Verstappen’s emergence as a real title contender influenced Lewis Hamilton’s decision to renew his contract with Mercedes. The 36-year-old has extended his contract with the Silver Arrows for another two years, ensuring his stay on the grid until at least the conclusion of the 2023 season.

Since Nico Rosberg’s retirement following the latter’s Drivers’ Championship triumph in 2016, Hamilton has dominated the sport, winning every available end-of-season award.

The man from Stevenage, on the other hand, appears to be up against it this time as he attempts to win a record-breaking eighth title.

Verstappen has a 32-point lead at the top of the standings after winning five of the first nine races, with Hamilton battling to keep up with the Red Bull talisman throughout the season.

With another strong performance in the British Grand Prix on Sunday, the Dutchman will try to expand his lead.

Button stated ahead of the forthcoming race at Silverstone that Verstappen’s dominance has made Hamilton realize that he still has something to show in Formula One, prompting the Mercedes driver to prolong his contract.

Button told Sky Sports, “I think Lewis is loving it, he’s relishing the fight with someone.” “He is well aware of Max’s abilities and Red Bull’s superiority.

“It’s a thrilling fight for him, and that’s what keeps him interested in F1 and why he’ll almost certainly receive this new two-year contract.”

Switching his attention to Sunday’s British Grand Prix, Button conceded that he couldn’t foresee the outcome, highlighting Hamilton’s recent flaws yet refusing to dismiss Mercedes’ might.

“Most years, we get three or four races into the season and we think it’s going to be a Mercedes championship, and it’ll almost certainly be Lewis Hamilton,” Button continued.

“He’s up against a challenge this year. I know he’s currently trailing Max in the championship, but I have a feeling he’ll be fighting later this year.

“Silverstone is a circuit where their car performs exceptionally well, thus it should be a tight battle with Red Bull.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
