Matthijs de Ligt admits there is ‘still no agreement’ between Barcelona and Ajax

Matthijs de Ligt may have played his last home game for Ajax but admits that his protracted move to Barcelona is far from a done deal.

The Dutch teenager is coveted by a host of elite European clubs after an outstanding breakout season in Amsterdam.

He has led Ajax to the brink of the Eredivisie title just days after their Champions League run came to an agonising end at the hands of Tottenham.

Though he looks certain to leave the club this summer, the 19-year-old insists he does not know where his future lies.

‘I don’t know yet. There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement,’ De Ligt said at the weekend about interest from Barca.

De Ligt led the celebrations at full-time on Sunday after Ajax took a massive step towards regaining the Dutch league title.

They beat Utrecht 4-1 at the Johan Cruyff Arena, meaning they will be champions for the first time since 2014 barring a final-day miracle.

Frenkie de Jong agreed a move to Barcelona in January and it still appears likely that De Ligt will join him at the Nou Camp next season.

‘I think these will be De Ligt’s final games with Ajax, but I hope he goes out on a high’, director of football Edwin van der Sar admitted in the week.

‘He’s been here since he was a child and will end up at a big club. I think he’ll go to England or Spain.’
