Manchester United supporters have taken to social media to express their annoyance at the club’s inactivity during this summer transfer window so far.
The 10-week window was officially opened on July 27, it shuts on October 5, but nearly a month on there have been no new arrivals at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils only finished their long season nine days ago when they lost to Sevilla in the Europa League semi-finals.
However, the club are yet to any additions to a squad that scraped into the top four on the final day of the season, while also lost at the semi-final stage of three separate cup competitions.
This coupled with the fact all of their top-four rivals have been busy in the market, most notably Chelsea, has sent many United supporters into meltdown.
Chelsea, who United pipped to third in the Premier League via goal differnece, had already signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner before the season had finished and are closing in on deals for Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr.
The Blues’ pro-activity in comparison to United’s is a sorry sight for the latter’s fanbase.
‘Man United acting like we have a transfer ban,’ wrote @Mr_Ceyram – noting the fact that this time last year Chelsea were banned from making any signings.
‘Chelsea only finished behind #mufc on goal difference last season, but are making 4+ top, top signings,’ slammed @JoshGI97. ‘United board need to wake up, or we’re getting left behind next season.’
@RheeMUFC echoed those sentiments by writing: ‘Chelsea have signed Werner, and Ziyech, and are going to sign Havertz, Thiago Silva, and Chilwell.
‘#MUFC have signed no one, and seems to be no one. How are we ever going to challenge for a premier title if we’re not making any signings. We’re just sitting ducks.’
Meanwhile, @TheUnitedLink said: ‘Chelsea don’t want to chase 3rd spot, they want the title and the board is backing Lampard. It’s beyond embarrassing how United have approached the window so far.’
@ReadorDead07 simply called for changes at the top club – aiming his furore at United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward – calling for him to leave.
‘Ed Woodward needs to leave #WoodwardOut #mufc,’ a tweet on Monday evening read.
@theutdjournal has even gone to the extent of setting up a petition demanding the board back manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market.
‘Enough is ENOUGH!’ they tweeted. ‘Ole needs players to get Manchester United back to the top, and our board haven’t shown any signs to do it this summer so far!
‘Collective movement brings change, so we request all of you #mufc fans out to sign this.
‘The petition is for delivering the players and things that will get back Manchester United back to the top, not something related to the familiar protests against the owners as we know the latter part won’t happen soon.
‘To our dear fellow Reds who are thinking this petition won’t do anything, then let us clear up. This petition is directly connected with the emails of the Glazers & Ed Woodward so if this gets a massive support, they will at least SEE the reaction. So please SIGN & RT! #mufc.’
Some United supporters took a more light-hearted approach to their despair by accompanying their displeasure with images as memes.
