Man United’s statements on Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane raise eyebrows, according to Paul Merson.
After the international break, Manchester United will welcome Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club.
Cristiano Ronaldo is not someone who can help Manchester United win the Premier League title, according to Arsenal icon Paul Merson. The majority of United fans would have been pleased with the club’s business at the close of the transfer window.
The addition of Jadon Sancho was quickly followed by the arrival of Raphael Varane, and both players immediately enhanced Solskjaer’s team.
However, after it was revealed late last month that the Portuguese superstar intended to leave Juventus, the signing of Ronaldo caught everyone off guard.
Manchester City appeared to be on the verge of acquiring the Old Trafford legend, but United soon swooped in to seal the deal.
Ronaldo returns to United after a 12-year absence when he joined Real Madrid at the age of 24.
Ronaldo was already a bona fide superstar at Old Trafford, but in the Bernabeu, he elevated his abilities to new heights.
Ronaldo is still one of the finest players in the world at 36 years old, and he has stated that he expects to compete at the highest level far into his 40s.
However, his arrival puts more pressure on Solskjaer to win his first trophy as United manager.
According to Merson, the Norwegian head coach’s major goal will have to be to win the Premier League.
Merson, on the other hand, believes that Ronaldo’s signing does not boost United’s chances sufficiently.
“Will Manchester United be able to win the Premier League? He told Sky Sports News, “That is the fantastic story.”
“It’s pointless for Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford and win the Golden Boot; it’s all about winning the Premier League.
“Solskjaer is in charge of the largest club in the world, therefore the pressure is constant. They have to finish first in the league.
“The goal of bringing in Ronaldo, one of the finest two players in the world for a long time, has to be to win the league.
“Please don’t tell me he’s being brought in to sell t-shirts.”
“Will you win the league with Cristiano Ronaldo or Harry Kane? Kane, in my opinion, does.
“If I’m the manager of a football club, I need players who will help me win titles, and I’m not sure Ronaldo is one of them.”
