Man United have warned that signing Cristiano Ronaldo could give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer “sleepless nights.”
Cristiano Ronaldo has made an incredible comeback to Manchester United ahead of the transfer deadline this evening.
After Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational return to Old Trafford on a two-year deal earlier on Tuesday, Jamie Redknapp has cautioned Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he may struggle to keep his players happy. The mercurial 36-year-old is largely anticipated to lead the Red Devils’ attack this season as they look to reclaim the Premier League title.
United had been considering bringing in a new striker since the turn of the year, according to reports.
The signing of Edinson Cavani to a new one-year contract in May, though, hinted that Solskjaer’s forward ranks would be covered for another season.
Prior to the signing of Ronaldo, the Red Devils also had Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and Anthony Martial to give cover in the center attacking role.
Despite United’s depth at the top of the pitch, their newest signing is anticipated to make an immediate impact as he attempts to lead the team back into Premier League and Champions League contention in the months ahead.
Redknapp, who played 17 times for England during his career, believes that Solskjaer will have a difficult time satisfying Ronaldo’s attacking teammates this season.
He told Sky Sports News that the presence of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will raise the pressure on United manager Jose Mourinho to end the club’s trophy drought, a job that will be tough to accomplish if he cannot keep his players onside.
“The beauty of it is that it will be fantastic to see him [Ronaldo] back,” Redknapp remarked.
“The other side of it is that he’s 36, and as a player and a pundit, you’re thinking to yourself, ‘How can Ole fit him in?’
“How does all of this fit for Manchester United now that they have five excellent attackers, or five players who can play in that front line?”
“It appears that Daniel James will leave, but Ronaldo, at this age and with his style of play, appears to be limited to playing as a central striker.
