Man City may have a backroom advantage over Man Utd in the £150 million race thanks to Erling Haaland.

Manchester City is rumored to be one of the clubs interested in signing Erling Haaland next summer.

If Erling Haaland decides to switch sponsorship deals, Manchester City could gain an advantage over Manchester United in their pursuit of the Norwegian sensation. Puma is reportedly trying to recruit Haaland as one of its athletes, which would give City, Borussia Dortmund, and the player more in common ahead of a frantic transfer hunt in 2022.

Puma’s current sponsorship of BVB will almost certainly offer the sports powerhouse an advantage when it comes to recruiting the star.

Haaland is now a Nike-sponsored athlete, but rivals are rumored to be willing to pay £50 million over the next four years.

The only stumbling issue for City could be the fact that his Nike deal expires in two years and his release clause kicks in in a few months, though The Daily Star claims that switching brands sooner is possible.

City already has a massive sponsorship contract with Puma in place, worth an estimated £650 million over ten years.

Individual deals with the brand have also been signed by Blues players Ederson, Kyle Walker, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and manager Pep Guardiola.

When his release clause kicks in next summer, the £150m-rated star will be available for a considerably lower price.

Any advantage over the European heavyweights vying for his signature in that circumstance would be welcomed with open arms.

He has started the season in brilliant fashion, scoring 11 goals in eight appearances across all competitions.

He just suffered a thigh injury, which has forced him to sit out the game.

While this will annoy the 21-year-old who has amassed so much early momentum, it will do little to deter Europe’s top clubs, who are all well aware of his vicious goal-scoring ability.

Man United, City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich are all expected to make their finest bid in 2022, and while sponsorship may play a role, Dortmund may have a few tricks up their sleeve as well.

Despite the fact that it is widely assumed that Haaland will seek a new challenge, Sport-Bild identified a variety of reasons why he may choose to remain at the Westfalenstadion.
