Liverpool’s efforts to sign Houssem Aouar have come to light, putting Arsenal in jeopardy.

Houssem Aouar has been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal so far this transfer season.

Houssem Aouar has been on Liverpool’s radar ‘for a long,’ according to reports. This summer, the Lyon star could depart the club. While Arsenal has been interested in the playmaker for some time, a transfer to Anfield could be more appealing.

So far, Liverpool has enjoyed a quiet transfer window.

Due to a lack of cash as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, no major signings are expected this summer.

However, Aouar, who could leave Lyon for a new challenge abroad, has been linked with a move to Anfield.

The France international was expected to join Arsenal a year ago, but the Gunners had to settle for Thomas Partey instead.

Liverpool have emerged as prospective suitors for James Maddison, with Arsenal’s interest waning despite ties to the 23-year-old.

In an interview with The Football Terrace podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke said that Liverpool have long loved Aouar and are considering him as a cheaper alternative to Youri Tielemans, Saul Niguez, and Renato Sanches.

“This is an intriguing development,” he remarked.

“I think everybody expected Houssem Aouar to join Arsenal at the start of the summer; they tried to sign him last summer but couldn’t agree on a deal with Lyon, so he stayed, much to his disappointment, because I believe he had his heart set on a move to the Premier League and to Arsenal.

“However, Liverpool has entered the picture for the French international, and it’s an intriguing one because we know they’re looking for a midfield reinforcement to replace Gini Wijnaldum.

“Houssem Aouar is presumably someone who is accessible on the market, and not for a huge price tag like Youri Tielemans, Saul Niguez, or Renato Sanches, so Houssem Aouar would be a cheaper choice.

“On his day, he’s a proven performer.

“Liverpool have been keeping an eye on him for a while now; he has the potential to be a Premier League success.”
