Liverpool’s attitude on snatching Saul Niguez from Barcelona

Saul Niguez appears to be on his way out of Atletico Madrid this summer.

According to sources in Spain, a swap deal involving Saul Niguez and Antoine Griezmann between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona is ‘imminent.’ According to the Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, ‘Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta will ‘reverse’ the arrangement.

After starting just 22 La Liga games last season, Saul has been extensively linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid this summer.

Atletico has also acquired Argentine midfielder Rodrigo de Paul from Udinese, who is expected to replace Saul.

Liverpool had been linked with a move for Saul, with sources in Spain claiming that they had made an initial £34 million deal.

They are unlikely, though, to try to sabotage Barcelona’s pursuit of the midfielder.

‘Senior club sources have rubbished’ the claims associating the Athletic with Saul, according to the Athletic.

Liverpool is also rumored to be ‘looking outside of the Premier League’ for their transfer business.

“There was always an awareness that with the Euros and the lingering financial impact of COVID on clubs, a lot of activity would happen later in the summer,” a source told the Athletic.

“Jurgen has 34 players at his Austrian camp, including the boys who are on vacation after the Euros and Copa America.

“A lot needs to be decided. There’s the monetary aspect, but you can’t just hoard players.

“In a 25-man Premier League team, you can only have 17 non-homegrown players (over the age of 21), thus room must be created.”

When questioned about the possibility of reducing the squad size, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the club’s official website, “I don’t know.”

“With a handful of the younger ones, maybe we should consider going out on loan, stuff like that; is now the proper time?” There hasn’t been a definitive decision made yet.

“It’s not the time to think about that in the first few days since that’s when they’ll all show up.

“I prefer to be pleasantly surprised by some of the boys, thinking to myself, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t anticipate him to be that close already.’

“We have a lot of movement in the team, if you want to call it that; there are a lot of players who could step up – for various reasons, the last.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
