Lionel Messi’s transfer comments come after the Barcelona legend agrees to join PSG.

Following his release from Barcelona, Lionel Messi is expected to join PSG.

Lionel Messi is on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain, with the Barcelona legend perhaps sealing his move to France today. After departing the La Liga giants, the Argentina international will join the Parc des Princes on a free transfer. And he’s already spoken out about a possible exit.

Messi discussed his departure at a news conference on Sunday.

When asked if he planned on staying, he replied, “It’s everything Laporta said.”

“Everything was agreed upon, but it couldn’t happen at the final minute [Messi staying in Barcelona].” I’ve heard a lot of negative things about myself, and this year I really wanted to stay but couldn’t. I said last year that I didn’t want to stay.

“I wanted to stay this year. I did everything I could, but the club was unable to do so due to La Liga.

“We need to accept it and move on.”

Messi also stated emphatically that he will do all in his power to remain at Barcelona.

When asked if the Catalan giants tried their utmost to keep him, he replied, “I don’t know,” adding, “What I do know is that I did everything I could.”

“I did everything I could to stay, and that is exactly what I wanted.”

Messi also confirmed that PSG was a possibility, adding, “It is a possibility, but I have not agreed anything with anyone.”

“I have a number of clubs interested in working with me. And while nothing is certain, it is evident that we are speaking with them.”

Messi refuted claims that he had his head turned after dinner with PSG players the night before, as evidenced by photographs uploaded on social media.

“It was purely coincidental,” he explained.
