Lille is ‘fighting hard’ to keep £30m Sven Botman, and Newcastle has a replacement lined up.

Sven Botman of Lille is expected to join Newcastle United.

If they are unable to sign Sven Botman from Lille during this month’s transfer window, Newcastle are reportedly interested in Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile.

The Magpies are in desperate need of reinforcements as they attempt to avoid relegation.

On Friday, Newcastle’s first signing under their new owners was England right-back Kieran Trippier, who signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at St James’ Park.

They are now pursuing Botman, who helped Lille qualify for the Champions League knockout stages before Christmas.

This season, the 21-year-old has been a standout for his team at the heart of their defense, despite a lengthy layoff in the autumn due to a groin injury.

Lille will fight to keep the Netherlands center-back in France, according to The Athletic.

As a result, the Magpies will try to pry Badiashile out of Monaco.

Although the towering defender is only 20, he is already regarded as one of Europe’s best young players.

As a 17-year-old, Thierry Henry named him in the starting lineup for his side’s Ligue 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain.

The game was a steep learning curve for the youngster, as Monaco was thrashed 4-0, and PSG went on to dominate the league once more that season.

After Henry gave him a death stare when he left a press conference without tucking in his chair, Badiashile played in two Champions League games for Henry and was thrust into the spotlight.

He has now appeared in 104 games for his club, scoring three goals.

He only missed three league games last season.

Badiashile has had a more difficult season, starting only eight times in Ligue 1.

Before Christmas, he missed five games due to suspension and injury.

However, in the first half of the season, the talented ace appeared in three of Monaco’s Europa League games.

He also assisted his team in securing a spot in the knockout stages of the competition after they went undefeated in the group stages.

The youngster has already been linked with a move to the Premier League after making nine appearances for France’s under-21 side.

Monaco is said to have declined the invitation.
