Leeds ‘eye double swoop for Liverpool stars Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster’

Leeds are considering a double swoop for Liverpool stars Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster, according to the Mirror.

Marcelo Bielsa’s top target is Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard but he will look to sign Origi permanently and Brewster on loan should that deal collapse.

Brewster scored in Liverpool’s first pre-season friendly this summer in a 3-0 win over Stuttgart on Saturday whilst Origi was not involved at all.

Brewster scored 11 goals in 22 games after joining Swansea on loan in January and  Jurgen Klopp wants a closer look to see if the 20-year-old is ready to challenge Roberto Firmino, Origi and Takumi Minamino at Anfield.

Aston Villa are also reportedly lining up a move for Origi as Dean Smith looks for a marksman to lead the line for the west midlands club next season after their narrow escape from relegation last season.

The Villains secured Premier League survival by the skin of their teeth last campaign, finishing in 17th place, a point ahead of Bournemouth, who were sent down to the Championship.

Smith’s side were constantly blighted by a lack of quality in the final third, with talisman Jack Grealish’s creativity regularly going to waste as a result of poor play by either Wesley or Mbwana Samatta.

The Belgian has popped up with crucial goals for Klopp’s side in the past few seasons – including a late strike in the 2019 Champions League final – but is finding minutes hard to come by.

The 25-year-old did feature in 44 games last campaign, but most of those came from the bench, with Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino virtually undroppable for the Premier League champions.

Origi has been admired by one of Villa’s local rivals with Wolves keen on signing the striker in January. However, the Belgian chose to fight for his place at Anfield.

He has a respectable 26 goals from 91 top flight appearances with Liverpool, and would prove a significant upgrade on the options currently at Smith’s disposal.
