Juventus owner Andrea Agnelli reveals he still has a match report from a clash with Shamrock Rovers

Andrea Agnelli has revealed a match report of Juventus playing a Europa League match against Shamrock Rovers has been the motivation behind his side’s domination of Serie A.

The Bianconeri have recently picked up a ninth consecutive Italian league title but as recently as 2010 they were in the wilderness of European as well as Italian football.

After finishing seventh in Serie A, Juve were drawn against the Irish side in the third qualifying round of Europe’s secondary competition, going on to win the tie 3-0 on aggregate.

Agnelli claims he still holds a match report from the tie which featured current day stars Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci as well as old club favourites including Alessandro Del Piero.

In an interview with Tuttosport Agnelli said: ‘I have a very frank relationship with the media and journalists, but for personal choice I prefer not to speak much.

‘I still keep the article from the report of the match against Shamrock Rovers, at the 2010 Europea League. It reminds me every time where we started and where we came from.’

Agnelli is the most successful president in the history of Juventus. With a ninth consecutive championship, Juventus have collected 17 trophies in 10 years, one more than Giampiero Boniperti and Vittorio Caissotti Chiusano, at 16.

Juventus under Agnelli have tended not to lean towards loyalty and have been happy to let long serving coaches or players depart if they are sure their replacements can carry on the winning formula.

It confirms that if there is a strong guide at the head of the club, players and coaches can change, but the results do not.

Since his arrival in Turin, Agnelli has changed the manager four times, most recently last summer when Maurizio Sarri came in for the successful Massimiliano Allegri.

The playing squad is also constantly refresh and they already have new additions arriving this summer, with Arthur joining in a £66million deal from Barcelona.

The dream always remains to win the Champions League, but for that trophy the club will have to try to overcome Lyon in the second leg of their last-16 clash on August 7. Juve trail 1-0 following a February defeat at the French side.

The dream of Gianni Agnelli, Andrea’s uncle, was to break the record of five consecutive Scudetti but with Andrea he is now very close to hitting a perfect 10.
