Jude Bellingham has revealed that a conversation with Jadon Sancho helped him decide to move to Borussia Dortmund over Manchester United as the teenager revealed his ‘annoyance’ over the transfer saga.
The 17-year-old has been at the centre of a transfer tussle between the Old Trafford club and their Bundesliga counterparts, with each holding a strong interest in securing a deal with Birmingham City for the hotshot.
United had rolled out the red carpet for Bellingham earlier this year, inviting the midfield to the club for a tour of the training ground, with legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson roped in to charm the teenager.
But Bellingham has snubbed United and opted to pack his bags and move to Germany, with Dortmund clinching a £25million deal for the midfielder.
The Englishman follows a long line of talented youngsters who have moved to BVB, with the club having a strong track record in developing the likes of Sancho, Mario Gotze and Christian Pulisic.
And Bellingham has revealed that he spoke with Sancho, another United target, about Dortmund, and he was convinced to move to the Bundesliga club as a result.
‘The record Dortmund have got with young players in recent years is unrivalled in European football,’ he said
‘Weighing all that up and the people we met there, the stadium and fanbase, it made me fall in love with that club as well. I’ve met Sancho and we have spoken. He is a great example of what you can achieve if you do the right things.’
Bellingham has also revealed his ‘annoyance’ over the speculation surrounding his future.
‘I chose Dortmund because it is the perfect step for my development. I am just glad that saga is over. It was a lot of annoyance to me and there was a lot of noise at the time when all I wanted to do was play for Birmingham.
‘Now I haven’t got the chance to do that anymore, but I would like to think I made the most of it. It is sad this is how I leave Birmingham, but I am really optimistic about the future.’
Whether Bellingham takes to the field with Sancho next season remains to be seen, with the English attacker believed to be keen to leave the club this summer amid rumours of a £109m move to Manchester United.
