Jose Mourinho stated that he did not want Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho has stated that he does not want Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Manchester United.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United this summer, but it could have happened in 2018 if Jose Mourinho hadn’t’made it clear’ that he didn’t want his former teammate.

When he was offered Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho reportedly told Manchester United that he didn’t want him.

At the time, the 36-year-old was still at Real Madrid, where he had previously collaborated with Mourinho.

Ronaldo returned to United in the summer, but he could have returned earlier in the year.

On talkSPORT, Jim White revealed details from Ed Woodward’s time as United’s Director of Football.

Following the fallout from the European Super League last April, Woodward announced his intention to step down.

“Manchester United’s return to Ronaldo has been discussed many times over the years,” White said.

“It could have happened when he was still in his prime at Real Madrid.”

“However, it was not possible because Jose Mourinho made it clear that he had other priorities at the time.”

Instead, Ronaldo joined Juventus that summer, while Mourinho was fired by Manchester United a few months later.

If Ronaldo had joined United in 2018, do you think he could have changed the club’s fortunes? Let us know in the comments section.

“Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart,” Ronaldo said when he returned to United in 2021.

“And the messages I’ve received since Friday’s announcement have left me speechless.”

“I can’t wait to play in front of a packed stadium and see all the fans again at Old Trafford.”

“After the international games, I’m looking forward to reuniting with the team, and I’m hoping for a successful season ahead.”
