Jose Mourinho has his sights set on Chelsea outcast Tammy Abraham, and Arsenal has been dealt a major blow.
Jose Mourinho has set his sights on Tammy Abraham, a Chelsea renegade, and Arsenal has been dealt a big blow.
Tammy Abraham, a Chelsea rebel, has been targeted by Jose Mourinho, and Arsenal has been struck a major blow.
Tammy Abraham of Chelsea has been linked with a summer move to Arsenal.
According to sources, Arsenal will face heavy competition from Roma for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham in the summer transfer market. Jose Mourinho is said to be interested in signing the 23-year-old. In recent weeks, the Gunners have been widely connected with a deal for Abraham, as Mikel Arteta looks for more top-flight reinforcements.
Since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in mid-January, the Chelsea striker has been kept out of the first-team picture.
Since February, Abraham has not started a competitive match for the German coach, and he appears to be on his way out this summer.
The upcoming arrival of Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku will only push Abraham further down the pecking order, with a move to another club proving to be the best choice for all parties.
Arsenal are thought to be big fans of the former Aston Villa loanee, who despite missing most of last season due to injury was Chelsea’s joint highest scorer in all competitions.
Roma, on the other hand, is ready to compete with Arsenal for his signature.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Mourinho has chosen Abraham as one of two alternatives for the side to pursue this summer.
With Edin Dzeko poised to join Inter Milan to help cover the vacuum left by Lukaku’s departure, Roma are in need of a new striker ahead of the 2018 Serie A season.
Borja Mayoral, who started the bulk of games in Dzeko’s absence last season, will be retained by Mourinho, but a new forward is expected to be added to the club’s summer agenda.
Roma are also said to be interested in Alexander Isak, a talisman for Real Sociedad and a star for Sweden at Euro 2020 earlier this summer.
It’s unclear whether Mourinho will approve a transfer for the 21-year-old striker or instruct Roma to pursue Abraham’s services.
Atalanta is also rumored to be interested in the latter, who just signed Tottenham defender Cristian Romero for around £47 million.
If Abraham is able to complete a move to Serie A this summer, Arsenal will have to start looking for a new striker all over again.
