Jan Oblak insists ‘there will be time to talk’ about Chelsea transfer as Atletico Madrid star leaves door open for move

JAN OBLAK insisted “there will be time to talk” about a potential transfer to Chelsea as he left the door open to a move.

The Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, 27, has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this year.

And in an interview with AS ahead of his side’s Champions League quarter-final with RB Leipzig tonight, Oblak would not be drawn into a discussion about his future.

But equally he did not shut down speculation of a summer switch.

The Slovenian said: “This is not the time for that, now it’s Leipzig.

“The balance of the season I do when the last game is over and hopefully we have three left.

“Then there will be time to talk. But first, Leipzig. I really want to pass.”

Oblak has emerged as arguably the best goalkeeper in the world during his six years at Atletico.

And that it why a number of clubs continue to be linked with making a swoop for him.

Chelsea are thought to be the most interested as Frank Lampard tries to work out how to resolve his defensive woes.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, the world’s most expensive stopper, struggled for form this season and was regularly dropped in favour of veteran Willy Caballero.

So a new stopper is high on Lampard’s summer wish list.

As revealed by SunSport, Manchester United also joined the race but in Dean Henderson, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has a long-term successor to David De Gea.

The major sticking point for any club hoping to sign Oblak would be his release clause, estimated to be around £109m.

With Chelsea already spending more than £84m this summer to sign Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner – plus wanting new defenders and £90m Kai Havertz – it seems unlikely they would be able to shell out another whopping fee for Oblak.

And Atleti will be desperate not to sell one of their star players, even if they manage to bring in Eiber’s Marko Dmitrovic, who is being eyed as a new understudy at the Wanda Metropolitano.
