James Rodriguez, the Colombian playmaker, admits that he chose Everton FC because he wanted a club where he could be trusted. After an indifferent spell on loan at Bayern Munich and his final year at the Bernabeu, he was reunited with his former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park at the age of 29.
When he was very influential, Ancelotti allowed Rodriguez to play to his strengths and rewarded him in the early stages of the season. Due to a calf injury, he missed five games and is still working on his full match fitness. He may be in line to play against Rotherham in the FA Cup this weekend after a brief spell as a substitute in Friday’s loss to West Ham. Rodriguez told Evertontv about his move to Everton, “I had to go to a team where I can be trusted,”I had to play under a coach who knows me and knows how I behave on and off the field. That’s why I try to show my best and play at the highest level in every game. “I had to play under a coach who knows me and knows how I behave on and off the pitch. That’s why I try to show my best in every game and play at the highest level. ” (later in his career). I’ve played in a lot of other leagues, but the players are tougher here, they play more physically, they always look for the ball. It’s about getting the best of your teammates to play and helping them to win. “If you are talented and skilled, you can play anywhere. With Everton just four points behind league leaders and defending champions Liverpool, Rodriguez has his sights set on Champions League qualification. “This is a club that has a thirst for great things to accomplish. I’m watching the Champions League from home this year, but I think we’ve got what it takes to be there next year,” he added: “We’ve got to be hungry for every game to succeed. At the highest level, we have talented players, and if we all pursue the same direction, I am sure we will be able to accomplish great things.
