‘I’ve been diving for 20 years.’ Tom Daley has announced his retirement as the BBC investigates his ‘amazing’ Olympic triumph.
In the men’s 10m platform synchronised diving, Tom Daley and Matty Lee won Team GB’s second gold medal.
Tom Daley has won an Olympic gold medal for the fourth time, this time with partner Matt Lee, who was filling in for him at the Games. Daley had previously won the bronze medal on two occasions, but this time he took home the gold.

In the men’s 10m platform synchronised diving, the British pair were flawless in every effort. They never placed outside of the top two, finishing with 471.81 points, 1.23 points more than China.
China was the defending gold medalist, but their score of 73.44 points in the fourth round was just the sixth-highest of the round.
Their fifth and last attempt was a flawless four-and-a-half somersault tuck, which left Daley and Lee nervously waiting by the pool.
When the judge’s scores arrived, they hugged each other in joy, knowing they had won the gold medal.
“After so many years, to finally have this gold medal around my neck… Daley stated, “I’ve been diving for 20 years and this is my fourth Olympic Games.”
“Many people would have written me off because I’m older, but I’m in the best physical and mental shape I’ve ever been in.
“Having Matty’s support heading into this competition and the way we’ve been practicing has given us an unstoppable mentality, and it’s the first time we’ve thought that way.
“It’s still hard for me to believe what’s going on. I didn’t think I’d be able to make it here in the first place. We were both in tears towards the end of the event. We couldn’t believe our eyes.
“That moment when we were standing there about to be crowned Olympic winners. I was gone to hear the national anthem. I couldn’t believe it when I was halfway through singing.
Daley’s previous two bronze medals came at the Olympic Games in London and Rio de Janeiro.
“It’s crazy, I can’t believe what just happened,” Lee added.
“I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. That exact moment.
The BBC reporter then went on to question Tom Daley, who had previously stated that if he won a gold medal, he would cease diving.
“Tom, you always claimed you’d finish after you won a gold.”Brinkwire Summary News”, the reporter inquired.
