Issues with John McEnroe At Wimbledon, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal gave Novak Djokovic a friendly reminder.

Novak Djokovic is in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, but he has been told that completing a Golden Slam will be difficult.

John McEnroe has warned Novak Djokovic that winning a Golden Slam is difficult, noting that neither Rafael Nadal nor Roger Federer had done it. After cruising into the quarter-finals, Djokovic is the favorite to win Wimbledon this month.

The World No. 1 had a fantastic year, ending Rafael Nadal’s dominance in the French Open in June.

The Spaniard had won each of the previous five Roland Garros titles, but was defeated in the final by Djokovic in a thrilling match in Paris.

It was Djokovic’s second Grand Slam victory in 2021, after defeating Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open final in February.

By winning Wimbledon this month and then the US Open in September, the Serb may complete a Golden Slam, which is achieved when a player wins all four majors in a calendar year.

Later this summer, he will compete in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Djokovic has previously held the title of Grand Slam champion in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments, but never in a calendar year.

Seven-time Grand Slam champion McEnroe has warned Djokovic that completing the Golden Slam will be difficult.

He told the BBC, “This is my own view, he’s going to lose at the Olympics.”

“It’s all best-of-three, and getting back up that quickly is difficult.

“Perhaps someone will surprise him, which would wake him up in time for the US Open, when he will win it all, which would be monumental.

“By the way, neither Federer nor Nadal have done it. Rod Laver accomplished it in 1969, and it’s been 50 years since he did it.

“Novak did hold all four in a row at one point, and I’ll take that over any other player any day of the week.

“It’s incredible that he’s been this consistent and, at this age, possibly better than ever.”

Djokovic advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals by defeating Cristian Garrin.

He is optimistic that he will be able to build on his great 2021 performance.

“I have a lot of self-assurance. After winning the French Open, Djokovic said after defeating Garrin 6-2 6-4 6-2, “That was certainly one of my biggest wins under those circumstances.”
