Ion Cutelaba and Dustin Jacoby scuffle at weigh-ins during UFC Fight Night.
With a faceoff shoving match, light heavyweights catch Dana White off guard.
Light heavyweight strikers Ion Cutelaba and Dusty Jacoby sparred at the weigh-in faceoffs ahead of their main event bout at the UFC Apex, raising the temperature in Las Vegas a few degrees.
Cutelaba, known as “The Hulk” and infamous for using physical intimidation techniques during faceoffs, tried to impose himself on his American opponent after the fighters had just weighed in ahead of the UFC Fight Night event, which takes place on Saturday night at the UFC Apex.
Cutelaba approached from the left side of the platform and heartily shook the hand of UFC president Dana White, who was on hand to keep order.
Cutelaba rushed forward and grabbed the back of Jacoby’s neck, which caught the UFC president off guard.
It caused a brief skirmish between the two fighters, which White and the UFC security team interfered to separate.
White had already chastised UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby for failing to halt Jeremy Stephens and Drakkar Klose in a similar brawl earlier this month. Stephens’ push landed so hard on Klose that he suffered a concussion, forcing the fight to be called off.
White, on the other hand, was taken off guard when the two light heavyweight knockout artists threatened to start the matches a day sooner than planned.
The main event bout between light heavyweight contenders Dominick Reyes and Jiri Prochazka was significantly more collected, but no less intense, as the two looked each other down for the final time before Saturday night’s showdown.
The co-main event featured a featherweight bout between Cub Swanson, a long-time 145-pound contender, and Giga Chikadze, a rising Georgian fighter.
