In the wake of Mercedes’ decision, Williams CEO George Russell has issued a warning to Lewis Hamilton.
Jost Capito, the CEO of Williams, issues a warning to Lewis Hamilton regarding George Russell. The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Mercedes, where he would team up with seven-time winner Lewis Hamilton.
Jost Capito, the CEO of Williams, has sent a warning to Lewis Hamilton about George Russell’s possible move to Mercedes.
The 23-year-old has been extensively linked with a move to Mercedes, where he would join seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton’s team.
Capito, 62, feels Russell has what it takes to win in F1 after working with world champions in both F1 and other racing organizations.
“Yes,” Capito answered when asked by GPFans if Russell had the potential to become a world champion. That is something I am certain of.
“However, comparing the different drivers across decades is difficult.
“They were all extremely different, but George demonstrates everything a modern race driver needs to succeed, and I am confident he will win the world championship. That is something I have no doubt about.”
In December 2020, Capito was named the new CEO of Williams Racing, and in June, he was named the team’s principal.
When he took over at Williams, he witnessed firsthand Russell’s talent and was blown away.
“Of course, I knew he was good when I came in, but he impressed me in a variety of ways,” Capito continued.
“It’s not just his talent; it’s his professionalism, the way he works, and the fact that he can switch off and do something else before returning to racing.”
“He’s really balanced, and he’s simply unbelievably brilliant, but he’s also working hard,” he added. He understands that his talent is no longer sufficient.
“I also admire his thinking, how he works, speaks, and manages the media; it’s quite impressive for a 23-year-old.”
Toto Wolff, the Mercedes team principal, has stated that he will choose between George Russell and Valtteri Bottas in the near future.
Wolff now says that a decision might not come for a few more weeks, but he doesn’t want the matter to go on much longer.
“We have to choose between Valtteri [Bottas’] stability and George’s skill, which is where the future lies,” he told Bild.
“I want the problem resolved in September so that both of them may prepare properly for the upcoming season.”
“Brinkwire Summary News” will resume after the summer vacation.
