In the midst of Mercedes rumors, Lewis Hamilton makes a funny George Russell Instagram gaffe.

With Russell’s future dominating the news, Hamilton added fuel to the fire with a hilarious social media mistake.

Mercedes is expected to announce who will drive with Lewis Hamilton next season, with George Russell a strong contender to replace Valtteri Bottas in the driver’s seat. And he did himself no harm by finishing second in what was a chaotic Belgian Grand Prix last Sunday.

Toto Wolff, the Mercedes team principal, has disclosed his decision on the number two slot for next season, and it was a heated topic of discussion all weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium.

And, with the F1 circuit traveling to the Netherlands this weekend and chatter waning for the time being, Hamilton has done everything he can to keep Mercedes’ choice in the spotlight.

On Tuesday evening, Hamilton posted a sweet snapshot of himself on the couch with his beloved dog Roscoe to his Instagram account.

Fans quickly noticed, however, that Hamilton did not use his dog’s Instagram account, but rather Russell’s social media tag.

However, after swiftly realizing his goof, Hamilton changed the Instagram tag to Roscoe’s and then opted to delete the social media post entirely while followers savored the gaffe.

The theme of Tuesday’s comments was “George for Mercedes 2022 confirmed,” as Hamilton fueled even more speculation regarding Mercedes’ future.

Russell had been touted to succeed Bottas at Mercedes, with lot of promise on his shoulders, despite the Finn’s dismal start to the 2021 season.

Russell scored his first points at the Hungary Grand Prix before the mid-season break, then finished a fantastic second in Belgium after last weekend’s weather caused mayhem.

Bottas, on the other hand, has had a difficult season, finishing fourth in the Drivers’ Standings, 94.5 points behind Mercedes teammate Hamilton.

And, with Mercedes’ impending announcement dominating headlines, a slew of F1’s biggest names have spoken out.

Following Russell’s strong showing in Belgium, F1 racing director Ross Brawn believes Mercedes has “just one decision” to make.

“We all know George Russell has a terrific talent,” Brawn wrote in his post-race blog. We saw it a lot at Williams, and it was magnified when he stood in for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
