As goalkeeper Jean Butez is out with an ankle injury, ROYAL ANTWERP have suffered a big setback ahead of their clash with Rangers.
After sustaining a severe ligament injury this week in training, the 25-year-old Butez is expected to be out for up to three months.
That means he will be out for next month’s Europa League match against the Gers, leaving Alireza Beiranvand, an experienced Iranian international, to step in as a replacement.
This season, Frenchman Butez has been Antwerp’s undisputed number one, featuring in all but two games of the starting eleven Belgian Cup winners.
On Instagram, Butez lamented, “The year 2021 does not start well. I will trade my gloves and soccer boots for a few weeks with crutches and orthopedic shoes.”
Another unwelcome headache for coach Franky Vercauteren, who took the reins at the Great Old One this week, replacing Ivan Leko, is his absence.
Also, the experienced coach had to deal with the aftermath of striker Didier Lamkel Ze turning up in an Anderlecht jersey for training on Monday to force a move to Panathinaikos.
