In response to an Arsenal transfer question, Mikel Arteta makes an intriguing Dusan Vlahovic hint.

ARSENAL are interested in signing Dusan Vlahovic this window, and Mikel Arteta has stated that he is open to new signings.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that the club is interested in signing Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Arsenal is thought to be leading the race to sign Vlahovic if he leaves Fiorentina this month.

In addition, Arteta hasn’t ruled out major signings during this window.

Vlahovic has 16 goals in 19 Serie A appearances this season, continuing his excellent goal-scoring form from the previous campaign.

In 2021, the Serbian striker equaled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 33 goals in a calendar year in the Italian top flight.

Arsenal will require at least one striker in the near future, with Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Eddie Nketiah all facing uncertain futures at the Emirates.

Arsenal is reportedly pushing to sign Vlahovic this window rather than in the summer, according to the Athletic.

At his press conference on Friday, Arteta hinted that this was the case.

The Spaniard stated that the club is open to making January signings if the right opportunity arises.

“Every window has to be maximized in a variety of ways, and we have to be alert,” Arteta said.

“If it’s the right player and we can afford it and do what we want with him, we’ll talk about it and make the best decision we can.”

“We are available.”

Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga are Arsenal’s only senior midfielders.

And Arteta has stated that he is interested in recruiting in that area.

“Right now, we’re very, very short,” he explained.

“We’re going to relocate and look for alternatives because we’re running out of options.”

On Sunday, Arsenal will play Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round.

Four years ago, the Gunners were defeated 4-2 at the City Ground in the same stage of the competition.

After missing last week’s loss to Manchester City due to a positive Covid test, Arteta is set to return to the bench.

He acknowledged that he has a small squad to choose from, but he still wants the game to go on.

“We’d like to.”
