With a World Championship title, Scottish darts hero Peter Wright set the festive mood – dressed at the Ally Pally like the Grinch.

With a 3-1 second round victory over Steve West on Tuesday night, the 50-year-old started the defense of his title.

Wright has been known throughout his career for his strange and wonderful costumes, known as “Snakebite” at the oche.

And when he wore the Grinch outfit for the opening match, the world champion stepped it up a notch in front of the small crowd in London.

The same shade of green as his eyebrows was given to his normal Snakebite hairstyle, while a special face mask and fluffy gloves completed the look as he took to the stage.

Until West pulled him back in the third set of the match, Wright raced into a two-set lead, giving himself an opportunity for a shock victory.

But by taking the final set 3-1 and securing his place with double 10 in the third round, the Scot wrapped up the contest.

Diogo Portela was a surprise 3-0 winner over Steve Beaton earlier that evening, while Jeff Smith beat Keane Barry.
