In Arsenal’s pursuit of Manuel Locatelli, Jurgen Klopp may have a role to play.
Manuel Locatelli is slated to leave Sassuolo this summer.
Arsenal is one of the clubs interested in midfielder Manuel Locatelli, who was a member of Italy’s Euro 2020 winning squad. Both Arsenal and Juventus are interested in signing Locatelli, who is expected to leave current club Sassuolo this summer.
Sassuolo’s sporting director Giovanni Carnevali told Sky in Italy earlier this month that talks with both teams were ongoing, but Arsenal had “tabled the only concrete offer we have had so far.”
“The only Italian club we spoke to about Locatelli was Juventus,” Carnevali stated.
“We spoke with [Juventus sporting director Federico] Cherubini last week.
“They are interested; we haven’t gone over all of the terms and evaluations yet, but we have a good relationship with Juventus, so we’ll keep talking.”
“It is true that other foreign clubs are interested; Arsenal is one of them, and they are ahead of the pack because they have made the only concrete offer we have received thus far.”
Meanwhile, following Italy’s Euro 2016 victory, Locatelli has remained tight-lipped about his future plans.
After the final, he said Sky Italia, “I haven’t really thought about my future club because I was concentrated on the national team.”
“We’ll see what occurs starting tomorrow [Monday].”
“Do I back Juventus? We’re here for the national team right now, so I’m rooting for Italy.”
Juventus is considered the favorite, as the Serie A club can give Locatelli Champions League football.
Sassuolo have been seeking for replacements as a result of the interest in Locatelli, and Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Liverpool’s Marko Grujic is being considered.
Grujic is also set to transfer this summer, with Liverpool reportedly interested in signing the 25-year-old.
Grujic hinted at a transfer away in a recent interview with sportske.net, saying: “I will shortly start Liverpool’s preparations, to do that basic bit, so we’ll see the following step.”
“We’ll see which team I end up playing for; I haven’t decided yet.”
The midfielder has also been linked with a move to Porto, where he was on loan last season.
The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds are looking for about £20 million for Grujic.
