If Dusan Vlahovic’s £31.5 million bid fails, Mikel Arteta could become Arsenal’s ‘dream’ signing.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could find OLLIE WATKINS to be the ideal replacement for Dusan Vlahovic this summer.

Arsenal are interested in Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic, but the club’s search for a long-term number nine may have to wait until the summer, when the ideal option may become available.

Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all expected to leave the club in the next six months, so Vlahovic, Alexander Isak, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are among those linked with a move to the Emirates.

With only Gabriel Martinelli capable of playing through the middle for Mikel Arteta and Folarin Balogun not yet deemed ready for a regular role in the Arsenal first team, finding a new goalscorer is a top priority in the transfer market.

Vlahovic is the most exciting marquee option, having scored 33 goals in 2020, including 18 in 21 games so far this season, but he could cost up to £70 million, and Manchester City and Juventus are interested in him.

He might just be difficult to find.

While Isak and Calvert-Lewin are viable options, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins may be a better fit for Arteta’s fluid, fast, and exciting attacking team.

The Devon-born England international, who is valued at £31.5 million by Transfermarkt, has admitted that playing for the north London club would be a dream come true.

“I’m an Arsenal fan, so Thierry Henry was my [favorite player],” Watkins said at the London Football Awards in March 2020, where the then-Brentford striker was named the EFL Player of the Year.

He’s a joy to watch.

He was, in a sense, my childhood hero.”

“To play for Arsenal one day, yeah, that’s the dream,” he added.

It’s a long shot, though.

It’s only because my family backs them up and such.

That, however, is a long-term [target].”

Given Manchester United’s current problems, it’s critical that Arsenal bring in the right people to help them continue their upward trajectory.

Arteta wants a team that he can develop into a trophy-winning, and ultimately title-challenging, unit, but having the right attitude to deal with the ups and downs of the journey is just as important.

Arteta requires players who are ready to face setbacks, fully commit to the cause, and are hungry for success.
