‘I was just relieved it was over!’ Sifan Hassan’s response after earning the medal treble was outstanding.
With a spectacular race in the 10,000m, SIFAN HASSAN has earned a third medal at Tokyo 2020, and a second Olympic gold.
Hassan, the Olympic World Champion, spoke to the BBC about adding a 10,000m gold to her hat-trick of medals at the Tokyo Olympics. The Dutch athlete came up short in her effort for an unparalleled treble of golds, finishing third in the 1500m after winning the Woman’s 5,000m. Hassan spoke to the BBC on the track just after winning her second gold medal of the games.
“To be honest, I was so happy it was over,” Hassan told BBC One.
“I was overjoyed as I crossed the finish line of the 10,000m.
“I couldn’t care less about winning; I was just relieved to have made it this far.
“The last two laps, in particular…
I was on the verge of collapsing.”
The Dutch athlete also discussed the physical toll of attempting an Olympic treble for the first time.
