‘I need to cut myself some slack,’ Emma Raducanu defends her loss.
After tumbling out of the Indian Wells tennis event, teen tennis champion Emma Raducanu insisted, “I need to allow myself some slack.”
The British number one was looking to build on her victory at the US Open last month, when she became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam event. However, the Kent teenager, who is ranked 22 in the world, lost in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, yesterday to world number 100 Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Emma gained a bye in the first round before meeting her Belarusian opponent, 27, in a night match that she lost 6-2 6-4.
“It’s easy to get trapped into being so focused on the result and becoming upset,” Emma commented later. I’m 18 years old, after all. I need to give myself a break.
“I’ve never played in a night match before. “This is my first time on the tour.” What’s going on in your neighborhood? Add your postcode or go to InYourArea.com to find out.
