How Chelsea will smash transfer record on Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva – but it’ll cost them just £4m

CHELSEA look set to splash a club-record £90million on Kai Havertz – but it will cost them just £4m.

The Blues have enjoyed a bumper summer of spending so far already, bringing in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Werner cost Frank Lampard and Co £48m from RB Leipzig, while ex-Ajax winger Ziyech cost £33m up front, with that fee potentially rising to £36.7m.

Havertz and Silva look to be next, with deals that would see them head to Stamford Bridge set to go ahead this week.

Veteran centre-back Silva will be a free transfer after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired.

Havertz will cost considerably more, with Bayer Leverkusen insisting on an up-front fee of £90m

But despite forking out a massive amount on the German, Chelsea will STILL only have to find £4m.

That’s because, since the summer of 2019, Chelsea have actually made a net PROFIT of £86m, thanks in no small part to being under a transfer ban last summer.

The Blues sold Hazard to Real Madrid a year ago in a deal worth £88m up front, potentially rising to £150m.

As things stand, Hazard has made the Blues around £100m – which has helped bankroll a major 2020 splurge.

Chelsea also waved goodbye to Alvaro Morata in January 2019, on an 18-month loan deal to Atletico Madrid.

Six months in, Atleti agreed to take on the Spaniard permanently at the end of the loan, meaning they should have now paid the £58m fee this summer.

Since last summer, the Blues have also sold Mario Pasalic (Atalanta, £14m), David Luiz (Arsenal, £8m) and Ola Aina (Torino, £9m).

Tomas Kalas (Bristol City, £8m), Michael Hector (Fulham, £5m) and Kenneth Omeruo (Leganes, £5m) have also been moved on.

Chelsea have therefore raked in £203m in sales since last summer.

In return, they made Mateo Kovacic’s loan move from Real Madrid permanent in a £40m deal – as well as landing Werner and Ziyech.

All-in-all, the West Londoners have spent just £121m.

That means, they are currently £86m in PROFIT ahead of moves for Havertz and Silva.

Once those deals are done, Chelsea will have spent just £4m in their year-long squad overhaul.

Ben Chilwell is tipped to join in a £50m deal, with Declan Rice on the cards for a fee of around £45m.

But Roman Abramovich recently agreed to pour £150m of his own money into the club to bankroll major transfers.

Should Chelsea sign Havertz and Silva for “£4m”, then even a combined £95m on Rice and Chilwell would see them have £51m still to spend.

Flop goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to be sold and replaced this summer.

And other big-name – and therefore big-money – stars such as Jorginho, Emerson, Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi and Marcos Alonso are being linked with moves away.

That could see yet more money coming into the club.

With the transfer window open until October 5, Chelsea fans could see yet more star names heading to West London this year…
